Description

The system shall be screw spline fabrication assuring true and accurate joinery. Wet-dry glazing using shim butyl tape to exterior and EPDM gaskets to the interior. Interior glazed with the glass projected to the outside of the system. The system can be used as a single window, a continuous ribbon window, single or double glazing, thermally broken. Vent windows are easily added and installed to the system. Expansion and contraction is accommodated with the split mullion design.

Performance

Structural performance will conform to CSA standard CAN3-S157-M83 “strength design in aluminum”. The minimum requirements shall be in accordance with procedures in CSA A440-00 with the following ratings:

A3 – Air tightness, B7 – Water tightness, C5 – Windload resistance.
The applicable ASTM test standards are listed below.

E-283 Air tightness
E-331 Water tightness
E-330 Structural performance with a maximum deflection of L/175 of the span.

Material

Extrusions shall be 6063 T5 alloy and temper. Glazing gaskets shall be EPDM elastomeric extrusions.

Finish

Both anodized and painted finishes are available. All integral colour anodizing is Architectural Class II, 0.4 to 0.7 mm coating. A fluropolymer paint coating to the requirements of AAMA 603 and AAMA 605 specifications is used, the industry standards toughest coating.

Fabrication

Fabricate framing from extrusions of size and shape in accordance with shop drawings. The system shall allow for inside glazing with glass bite not less than 12mm (.05″). Aluminum mullions shall be connected accurately to each other by anticorrosive fasteners properly sealed to assure air and water tight joints.

Construction

Frames shall have mechanically joined corners with no exposed screws, all joints shall be accurately fitted free of burrs and rough edges. Complete frame assemblies shall be free of warp.

Installation

All frames shall be installed by experienced technicians in accordance with approved shop drawings. The frames shall be set plumb, square and level and in correct alignment with adjacent construction. All anchoring shall suit the type of construction of the perimeter work.

Protection And Cleaning

After installation the general contractor should adequately protect the exposed aluminum and glass surfaces from damage by other trades i.e. (but not restricted to) cement splash and leach, grinding, polishing compounds, plaster, paint, lime, acids and other contaminants.
